Meet the Team

Team Leaders: Translators

French: Francisco Barnés Alcantar

Hi all! My name is Francisco Barnés. I am a high school student from Mexico, but I've been going to a French school since I was three years old. Because of this, I've had the privilege to be able to speak French, Spanish, and English fluently. As such, I volunteered to translate this webpage into French in order to be able to help immigrants from around the world in any way I can. I am especially passionate about this initiative because I'm highly aware of the difficulties immigrants face when they get to a country such as the U.S and I'd like to facilitate this process as much as I can.

Spanish: Julieta Prado Liebers

Hi everyone! My name is Julieta, I am a 17 year-old high school student from La Paz, Bolivia. I am a bilingual student that is currently working on her International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma and I am part of this project because I know how stressful college applications can be, especially being an international student and there are not many resources out there. I am an editor and translator of the webpage. I am really excited to be part of this initiative and be able to guide you through this process!

Team Leaders: blog editors

Julieta Prado Liebers

Hello again! I already introduced myself as a translator, but now I'd like to introduce myself as a blog editor. I have enjoyed reading literary works since I was a young, and recently I have developed an interest and passion for writing. I am a journalist and editor for my school newspaper, and I'm also currently writing my own novel. As such, I volunteered to edit blogs in order to help immigrants tell their stories as vividly as possible. I'm super excited to be part of this initiative and I look forward to getting to know all your stories!

Samantha Shachter

Hello everyone! My name is Samantha Shachter and I currently live and go to school in Canada. I have had a passion for writing nonfiction essays for years, and have been an editor of mutliple papers and essays. As such, I volunteered to contribute to the Soft-Landing Project as a blog editor. I am also passionate about the aim of this project since I don't know much about the lives of immigrants, and I would like to learn more about it through the stories of people my own age.

Nabiha Khan

Nabiha Khan

Hello! My name is nabiha khan and I am one of the editors for The Soft-Landing Project. My family is from Pakistan, a Muslim country located in South Asia. When my family immigrated to America, one of the main issues they faced was the language barrier, which prevented them from being able to ask others questions about school, work, and how to navigate a country which was completely foreign to them. While we struggled with learning English, my family also had the responsibility of making sure I got a proper education and made it to college. Without the proper resources, this challenge was incredibly difficult, something that many other immigrants can resonate with. The Soft-Landing Project focuses primarily on helping new immigrants feel welcome and access the resources they need in order to maneuver through different challenges they’ll be faced with. Speaking as an immigrant, many times our issues go unnoticed due to our lack of familiarity and assets.

With being an editor for The Project, I hope to provide helpful insight into the struggles and challenges which come with learning to adapt to a new culture, language, and country.
